Additional Orthodontic Treatments

Two-Phase Treatment

At Alliston Orthodontics & Oral Surgery, we believe in treating the right problem at the right time—especially when it comes to growing smiles. Two-phase orthodontic treatment is a proactive approach that allows us to address developmental issues early, then fine-tune the bite and alignment once the adult teeth have fully emerged.

This treatment is typically recommended for children who show early signs of:

  • Significant jaw or bite imbalances
  • Crowding or spacing issues
  • Crossbites, underbites, or overbites
  • Habits like thumb-sucking that impact jaw development

Phase One: Early Intervention (Ages 6–10)

The first phase focuses on guiding jaw growth and creating space for developing permanent teeth. Treatment may involve braces, spacers, expanders, or other appliances. This phase sets the stage for more effective treatment later and can reduce the need for extractions or surgery.

Resting Period

Between phases, we allow time for the remaining adult teeth to come in naturally while monitoring development closely.

Phase Two: Final Alignment (Typically Ages 11–14)

Once most permanent teeth are present, we begin comprehensive orthodontic treatment—usually with braces or clear aligners—to align the teeth and establish a healthy, functional bite.

Two-phase treatment provides long-term benefits by addressing foundational concerns early and finishing with precision. It’s a thoughtful, step-by-step plan that leads to healthier, more stable results—and a confident smile that lasts a lifetime.

Comprehensive Orthodontic Treatment

Comprehensive treatment is what most people think of when they hear “orthodontics.” It’s a single, complete phase of treatment designed to correct all alignment, spacing, and bite concerns in one process—typically using braces or clear aligners.

This approach is ideal for:

  • Teens with all (or nearly all) of their adult teeth
  • Adults seeking full smile correction
  • Patients who do not require early intervention

At Alliston Orthodontics & Oral Surgery, we customize every comprehensive treatment plan based on your specific needs. Whether you choose:

  • Mini Master Braces for efficiency
  • Iconix Braces for a more aesthetic option
  • Invisalign or Angel Aligners for maximum discretion

—we’ll guide you through the process with expert care and ongoing support.

Comprehensive treatment typically lasts between 12 and 24 months, depending on the complexity of your case. With the help of digital imaging and treatment planning tools like the iTero scanner and DIBS AI, we ensure precise tooth movement and outstanding results.

This single-phase approach is effective, convenient, and customized to help you achieve the smile you’ve always wanted—at any age.

Early Interceptive Orthodontic Treatment

Early Interceptive Orthodontic Treatment

Early interceptive treatment is designed to address orthodontic concerns before they become more serious. At Alliston Orthodontics & Oral Surgery, we take a proactive approach by monitoring growth and development in children as young as age 6 or 7. When needed, early intervention can guide jaw development, improve bite function, and create a healthier foundation for permanent teeth.

This phase of treatment is typically short-term and may involve:

  • Space maintainers or expanders
  • Limited braces or aligners
  • Habit-breaking appliances (e.g. for thumb-sucking or tongue thrusting)
  • Jaw growth guidance to improve symmetry and balance

Why Early Treatment Matters:

  • Reduces risk of more complex treatment later
  • Helps avoid extractions or surgery in the future
  • Supports better speech, breathing, and chewing
  • Improves facial development and aesthetics

Our experienced team evaluates each child’s needs individually and only recommends treatment when it’s truly beneficial. With early interceptive care, we can make a lasting difference—setting your child up for a healthier, more confident smile as they grow.

Orthognathic (Jaw) Surgery

Some orthodontic issues can’t be corrected with braces or aligners alone. For patients with significant jaw misalignments—such as severe underbites, overbites, facial asymmetry, or sleep apnea—orthognathic surgery (also known as corrective jaw surgery) may be the best path to long-term health and function.

At Alliston Orthodontics & Oral Surgery, we offer in-house surgical expertise to manage even the most complex cases—seamlessly coordinating care between our orthodontists and oral surgeons.

Orthognathic Surgery Can Help With:

  • Correcting misaligned jaws or bites
  • Improving facial balance and symmetry
  • Enhancing speech and chewing ability
  • Addressing obstructive sleep apnea and breathing concerns
  • Reducing chronic jaw pain (TMD/TMJ)

Surgical orthodontic treatment typically involves braces before and after surgery, with the surgical procedure performed once the teeth and bite are properly aligned. Our team uses digital imaging, 3D planning, and advanced surgical techniques to ensure safe, precise, and predictable results.

Orthognathic surgery can be life-changing—improving not just your smile, but your overall quality of life. We’ll be with you every step of the way, from planning to recovery, to ensure a smooth and successful experience.
